Muhammad Sami bowled a brilliant last over while defending just 5 runs

DUBAI (Dunya News) - Islamabad United defeated Quetta Gladiators by 1 run in a match that turned out to be a nail-biting contest in the depth overs of the second innings.

Apparently the Galdiators were making their way to a convincing win however the last two overs took the match away from them. Sami bowled exceptionally well as he defended just five runs in the last over while giving his side a win out of nowhere.

Earlier, in the 17th match of PSL 2017, the defending champions Islamabad United had to face the challenge of mighty Quetta Gladiators at Dubai Sports City.

Quetta Gladiators won the toss and elected to field first as they replaces Mills and Hamza with Perera and Zulfiqar.

As far as Islamabad United was concerned, they made two changes while bringing in Badree and Talat for Duckett and Amad.

Quetta Gladiators Innings

Overs 20  I  Score 164/5  I  Rilee Rossouw 9*, Thisara Perera 0*

KP scored a boundary of Watson’s over as he helped his side cruising towards the victory. Shadab Khan came strongly in the eighteenth over as he trapped the dangerous KP plumbed in front of the stump of the last ball of the seventeenth over. On the very first ball of the next over, Ahmad Shehzad also departed as he was caught by Shadab Khan at the edge of the boundary of the bowling of Muhammad Sami.

A miss-field by Hussain Talat cost United a boundary as Quetta. Rumman came really strong in the penultimate over as only two runs were conceded with skipper departing in the same over.

The match got into a tense situation when Sami came into ball in the last over. Only five runs were required of the last over. Sami bowled brilliantly as Islamabad United won the match by one run in a heart racing encounter.

Overs 15  I  Score 131/1  I  Kevin Pietersen 59*, Ahmed Shehzad 55*

Immediately after the half-way stage, the dangerous Pieterson seemed so hungry for runs while taking charge in Badree’s over. KP hits a four, a massive six and another boundary while taking 17 runs of the eleventh over of the innings.

Left-arm bowler Rumman Raees bowled a really good over at this stage of the game as he conceded just two runs in the over. Meanwhile, Ahmad Shehzad reaches to his fifty as this was the second fifty in a row for him in the tournament.

Irfan also bowled brilliantly in the thirteenth over as only 3 runs were scored of his over. KP hammered one away for a massive six of the fourth ball and pummeled another one of the penultimate ball to make things really easy for Quetta while chasing the target. A total of seventeen runs came of Rumman’s over. Pieterson also reached to his fifty meanwhile.

Four byes also came of Shadab’s bowling in the 15th over.

Both KP and Shehzad carried the innings further as KP hit the promising Shadab on the last ball of his first over. Meanwhile, Muhammad Sami came into ball and went for two boundaries as both the batsmen seemed to be in great touch. Ahmad Shehzad pummeled one for a huge six as he shows his class to the young lad out there.
Ahmad pummeled one away for four more of the bowling of Sami as he looked aggressive and in real touch today. Sami missed a run out as he wasn’t been able to grab a throw from Rumman Raees. At half-way stage, Gladiators looked to be in promising position as they scored 82 runs for the loss of one wicket.

Overs 5  I  Score 39/1 I Kevin Pietersen 6*, Ahmed Shehzad 24* 

Asad Shafiq started the proceedings in style as he thumped one away for a boundary of the first ball of the very first over by Muhammad Irfan. Badree came into ball in the second over and bowled decently to concede just five runs of the over. Irfan started the second over and removed Asad Shafiq as he dragged a shot ball on to the stumps while getting out in the process. A wicket and only 3 runs came of the second over of Muhammad Irfan.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Shehzad brought some pace as he hits two consecutive boundaries on the second and third ball of Badree’s over. Meanwhile, KP also joins the party as he pulls one away to the leg stump for four more. Thirteen runs came of Badree’s over.
Shehzad puts one away for four more towards the third man boundary of the bowling of Irfan in the next over. Quetta got a decent start in the first five overs while chasing 166 in the allotted overs.

Islamabad United Innings

Overs 20  I  Score 165/6  I  Shadab Khan 9*, Muhammad Sami 0*

Both Brad Haddin and the skipper carried on the innings as they rotated the strike at regular intervals and putting bad deliveries for boundaries in the process. In the fifteenth over of the innings, Brad Haddin took the charge as he hits two consecutive boundaries of the Anwar Ali’s first two deliveries as the medium pacer went for 14 runs in the over.

In the next over, Haddin was caught by Anwar Ali at long-off of the bowling of Hassan Khan. The dangerous came into bat as he joins the skipper on the crease. Meanwhile, Muhammad Nawaz comes up with brilliant bowling in the depth overs as he conceded just 3 runs of his third over.

Anwar Ali came into ball the eighteenth over and proved really expemsive as Watson pummeled one away for four of the next ball while the skipper drags one away for six of the third ball.

The skipper departed as he was caught by Muhammad Nawaz of the bowling of Anwar Ali at leg-stump. The emerging talent from Islamabad United, Shadab Khan hits massively of the second ball of Anwar Ali for a glorious six over long-off. 12 runs were scored of the penultimate over by Nawaz Ali.

Watson always creates troubles for the opponent sides as he comes up with lusty hitting. Same was the case in the last over, as he hits a boundary of the first and two massive sixes of the next two balls as 18 runs were scored of the over.

As the partnership looked solid, Rafatullah Mohmand hit a rising ball from Perera towards cover where Zulfiqar Babar makes no mistake while grabbing an easy catch. Meanwhile, the promising opener of Islamabad United Hussain Talat carried on with his aggressive style as he took the charge in the next over while thumping Hasan Khan for a six over long-on and a boundary of the next ball while completing his half-century in the process of doing so. Well played young lad!

After playing an impressive knock of 56 for 39 balls, Hussain Talat departed as he was caught by Perera of the bowling of Zulfiqar Babar. The skipper who was already on the crease was joined by Brad Haddin.

Hussain Talat comes up with a brilliant knock as he opens for United On the third ball of thirteenth over, Haddin pulls one away for four of the bowling of Perera.

Overs 7  I   Score 54/1  I   Hussain Talat 37*, Rafatullah Mohmand 16*

The start of the proceedings was not that good for Islamabad United as they were asked to bat first at Dubai Sports City. On the third ball of the very first over by leftie Zulfiqar, Smith got out when he played up in the air and landed into the hands of Muhammad Nawaz. Rafatullah sweeps on the last ball of the first over for four as he opened Islamabad United and his own account. Hasan Talat also scored a boundary of Mahmudullah’s last ball of the next over.

Rafatullah hits one straight over the bowler’s head as he takes one Muhammad Nawaz in the fourth over. After going for a boundary in the fifth over of the innings, Rafatullah hit an uppish shot towards square leg boundary, however was dropped by Rossouw. Hussain Talat scored two boundaries in the next over of Hasan Khan while in the seventh over, he took the charge of Mahmudullah bowling while hitting a six and boundary in his over. Both these batsmen offered a decent start to Islamabad United after the early loss.
