JJ Roy reached to his fifty as he hit a massive six of the bowling of Saeed Ajmal in the 16th over. However, in the same over Elliot was trying to sweep and a top edge landed into the hands of fielder at deep backward square leg. As Sunil Narine comes in, he seemed in hurry to finish things off in style as the opportunity was provided by Shane Watson in the 17th over. Six, dot, four, six, single and four of Watson’s over was something that almost take the match out of United’s hands. Narine scored the winning boundary as he finished things off in style.

Umar Akmal showed some aggression as he hits a six over mid-wicket of Watson’s bowling. He also hit a huge one for six to mid-wicket of the bowling of Ajmal in the next over. The partnership created frustrations in United’s camps as both Qalandars were inching towards the target rather comfortably. The valuable partnership of 71 runs ended when Watson was introduced in the fifteenth over and who got Umar Akmal while he was caught by Billings at deep mid-wicket. Umar Akmal scored an impressive knock of 35 runs. With only five overs to go, Qalandars needed another 38 runs with seven wickets in hand.

The aggression showed by Brendon McCullum was put to halt after his depart. As Umar Akmal comes into bat while joining Jason Roy, one can expect some kind of slogging in effort to carry the score further. The strike was rotated at regular intervals as bad deliveries were converted into boundaries. At half-way stage, Qalandars were 86 for the lass of two wickets as the required run rate was 7.90.

When Jason Roy and Brendon McCullum are opening for a team, the opponent’s attack needs to worry. The master blaster from New Zealand scored 21 runs of Imran Khalid’s first over that included three boundaries and a huge six of the last ball. The same kind of aggression pursued in the second over as 15 runs were scored of Muhammad Sami’s over. However, Ruman Raees was able to provide the breakthrough in third over of the innings when McCullum was trying to clear the deep square leg boundary and was caught by Sam Billings in the process of doing so. Moreover, the one-down batsman Fakhar Zaman was caught by Sami of his own bowling in fourth over of the innings.

Islamabad United Innings

Over 20  I  Score 158/3  I  Mohammad Sami 0, Misbah-ul-Haq 61*

The sixteenth over was rather an expensive one in comparison to the first two overs of Grant Elliot as Misbah hot a massive six and Watson scored a boundary of his third over. However, Elliot was able to take his fourth wicket of the match by removing Shane Watson. In the very next over, Asif Ali in an effort to clear the deep wicket boundary handed over an easy catch to Grant Elliot who is making his presence felt in the match through his contributions with both bowling and fielding. Meanwhile, Misbah-ul-Haq started slogging with two massive sixes and a boundary while reaching his half-century as well. Misbah-ul-Haq seems to be in mood as he hit another six on first ball of the last over. Islamabad United were able to score 158 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted twenty hours thanks to skipper’s crucial knock.

Both Misbah and Haddin carried on the innings from half-way stage and rotated the strike at regular intervals while at the same time scoring a couple of boundaries. Elliot can always be a threat to the opposition’s batting line and his second over also provided the crucial breakthrough in the shape of removing the dangerous Haddin who gave a rather easy catch to Yasir Shah at point. Meanwhile, Islamabad United were able to cross the 100 mark in 14.3 overs. With 5 over remaining in Islamabad United innings, the skipper was batting on the vrease alongside another Aussie Shane Watson.

Over 10  I  Score 76/2  I  BJ Haddin 2*, Misbah-ul-Haq 1*

In an effort to accelerate things up, Islamabad United opener Sam Billings thumped Bilawal Bhatti for six over square leg on second ball of the ninth over. However, the introduction of Grant Elliot to the attack by Qalandars’ captain turned out to be a smart move as he removed both the openers in the same over. Both Billings and Smith were cleaned up by Elliot on the first and third balls of the over respectively. At half-way stage, United were 76 for the loss of two wickets as skipper comes into a bat and was on the crease alongside Brad Haddin.

Over 5  I  Score 34/0  I  SW Billings 10*, DR Smith 19*

Openers of Islamabad United started the proceedings with normal pace as they started batting on the first match of Day 3 of PSL 2017. The third over proved to an expensive for the Qalandars as Islamabad’s openers scored three boundaries of Muhammad Irfan. Overall, the start for United was a decent one as they didn’t lose any single wicket while managing to score 34 runs of it.
