ABU DHABI (AFP) - Pakistan were 82-1 at lunch after winning the toss and opting to bat in the first Test against England at Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Tuesday.
Opener Mohammad Hafeez was unbeaten on 44 and Shoaib Malik batting on 36 after paceman James Anderson dismissed Shan Masood for two in the third over of the day.
Pakistan had to leave out leg-spinner Yasir Shah who was ruled out with a back problem, forcing them to play with three fast bowlers and one spinner in Zulfiqar Babar.
England handed a first Test cap to leg-spinner Adil Rashid, six years after he made his one-day debut.
