Summary Afridi will be looking to redeem himself in the upcoming series against Zimbabwe.

LAHORE (APP) - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Shaharyar Khan has backed Shahid Afridi to lead the side at next year s World Twenty despite poor performances by the star all-rounder in the National T20 Cup which concluded on Tuesday.

The flamboyant Afridi failed to deliver in the domestic T20 competition, scoring just 35 runs and dismissing five batsmen in four matches for the Karachi Blues.

But the PCB chief said the 35-year-old star remained a potent threat in the T20 format despite the dip in his fortunes.

“Afridi can produce enormous success and is a match-winner who has the capability to turn games at any stage,” said Shaharyar.

Afridi, who has represented Pakistan in 82 T20Is, scoring 1218 runs and taking 83 wickets also featured for Northants recently in the T20 Blast in England, where he performed in patches.

“Boom Boom”, who scored a blistering 45 against Sri Lanka in his last T20 innings for the Greens has got complete support of the PCB chief who believes Afridi s presence is vital for the relatively inexperienced squad.

Afridi will be looking to redeem himself in the upcoming series against Zimbabwe which kicks off with the first T20I to be played on September 27, followed by the second match on September 29th.

Speaking about the revival of international cricket in Pakistan, the PCB chairman revealed that his board had invited teams several associate teams to tour the country.

“We are in talks with Holland, Scotland, Ireland, Hong Kong and Oman to tour Pakistan and I am positive for their visit,” he said.
