Summary Irfan's 4 and Wahab's 3 have really held Zimbabwe back and Pakistan might just pull it off now.
LAHORE: (Web Desk) - 215 all out! Wahab Riaz take a bow. 4 wickets and 54 runs at quick pace. Pakistan win their first match after 2 losses in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
A tough contest between the two teams that went down to the wire. The game could have gone both ways till the 40th over, when Wahab Riaz came back into the attack and took two wickets in an over. It all went downhill from there for the Zimbabweans as they could not contend with ever increasing run rate. The last over required 24 runs from the batting side and they failed to do so.
Wahab Riaz is awarded the Man of the Match award and rightly so. Pakistan will face minnows United Arab Emirates this wednesday and the remaining games are do-or-die for the men in green.
Wahab Riaz has been awarded the player of the match award.
And that s it! Pakistan have won it. Umar Akmal has caught it yet again. This is amazing stuff. Pakistan wins!

And it s a Run Out now. Pakistan supporters are jubilant.
Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ismail Miftah was speechless at that dropped catch, just like the rest of us.
Nasir Jamshed. Speechless. #PakvsZim
— Miftah Ismail (@MiftahIsmail) March 1, 2015
Meanwhile, Nasir Jamshed s miseries continue. He has dropped yet another one.
Brilliant bowling by Irfan. 30 runs off his allotted 10 overs. Excellent bowling by the big man.

Mohammad Irfan is bowling some great stuff here. Zimbabwe now need 28 off 9 balls. But this has been one of the best games of the tournament for sure.
How I feel right now. #PAKvZIM pic.twitter.com/jW4apF8YRr
— Naheed Rajwani (@naheedrajwani) March 1, 2015 48 overs: 208-8, 28 required off 12 balls.
Exceptional bowling by Lala and exactly when it mattered the most. A madien at this time of the game needed experience and Afridi s length didn t let the batsman to move an inch. Brilliant bowling!
What an Over by Lala, surely some thing to chear for Afridians #PakvZim
— Asif Nawaz (@Cricket_Wala) March 1, 2015
This dude is playing games... Maiden over kunje? #cwc
— Thembani (@tdyani) March 1, 2015
And another boundary. 35 required now off 25 balls. This is literally a nail-biting contest.
DON T PLAY WITH MY EMOTIONS #PakvsZim
— MObeen khan (@MObiiOpridy) March 1, 2015 45 overs: 195-8. The game is going down to the wire.
Pakistan are keeping it nice and tight but Zimbabwe haven t given up as yet.
They re going good. Zimbabwe are going good. Such a tight game. Ek level ki teams hain, kaha tha maine #PakvZim
— Rida. (@RidaMirza7) March 1, 2015 42 overs: Zimbabwe are 181 for 8 now. Chigambura and Panyangara are fighting the odds though.
Pakistan feeling like winning it now.
Great over by Riaz.. now we just need 2 more. Ye inka kaptaan he jeetwyega hmay #CWC15
— Umar Khan (@MUmar_Khan) March 1, 2015
Pakistan fans now certainly sniffing the kill.
Wahab is on fireeeee!! #PAKvZIM
— Noreen Khan (@DJNoreenKhan) March 1, 2015
And Wahab Riaz got yet another one. This is brilliant stuff now. Pakistan are right on top of this one now.
Wahab Riaz, Muhammad Irfan and Misbah ul Haq holding a depleted #Pakistan together. #PakvsZim
— Ali Salman Alvi (@alisalmanalvi) March 1, 2015
Pakistan have got another one here. Wahab Riaz has got Ervine and Pakistan are right back into this one now. Zimbabwe are 168 for 7 now.
39 overs: Zimbabwe are 168 for 6 and for the first time the Zimbabweans require more than run-a-ball.
Irfan has done everything that he could today. However, he didn t what he couldn t.
Instead of "high five", Irfan has to do "low five". #PakvsZim pic.twitter.com/HvvIFHsaev
— AliNawazMalik (@lsemalik) March 1, 2015 36 overs: Zimbabwe are 164 for the loss of 6 wickets.
Umar Akmal has caught this one now. This is like drop-one-catch-one for Pakistan s wicket-keeper.

Shahid Afridi has been extremely unlucky. Two catches dropped off his bowling, edges not getting to any fielders, it s been a tough tournament for Lala.
Now Misbah put slip in. This like closing stable door after your buffalo already run off with neighbour donkey. #PakvsZim
— Nasir Jamshed (@NasirJamshed_) March 1, 2015
Fifth wicket is down now. Ahmed Shehzad has caught a blinder at the point. Williams is gone and Pakistan s hopes might slightly have come alive again by this wicket.
Wicket! #pakvzim can t believe I m relieved and hopeful. Lord this is Zimbabwe we r playing. Reminder to self.
— Nilofer Afridi Qazi (@ninoqazi) March 1, 2015 36 overs: 164-5.
That dropped catch has really escalated the anger to new levels.
Kill akmal...dropped another catch...BC kamina :/Here is the point where chances of our loss doubled :/ #PakvsZim
— Rasikh Abbasi (@rasikh87) March 1, 2015
33 overs: Zimbabwe are now 150 for 4. Batsmen feel no problems as Umar Akmal continues to provide them with new lifelines.
Umar Akmal continues with his catch-dropping spree. Shahid Afridi was yet again the victim. How can you blame a team for not performing when its most vital organ in the field, the wicket-keeper, can t even take a catch.
Another incurable disease detected..
Pehlay he pata that ! Kit ka shade he winning color naheen tha ! Who designed it ?! #PakvsZim
— Ayesha (@Aischak) March 1, 2015
And finally the disease has been diagnosed. There s no cure though.
Clean environment in Aus and NZ is distracting Pak players, they ud have performed better in Ban/SL/Ind/Pak :P #Oksorry #PakvsZim
— Shah (A+) (@mevpks) March 1, 2015
Wahab Riaz has taken a wicket as well now after scoring a tremendous 50 with the bat.
Wahab Riaz is Our Best Player Today. Kabhee Socha tha? #PakvsZim
— Rabia Anum (@RabiaAnumm) March 1, 2015 30 overs: Zimbabwe are 128 for 4 and still need 106 runs off 120 balls with 6 wickets in hands. Can Pakistan pull this one back?
It s not over yet! Pakistan has got another one. Can this turn out to be the turning point in the game as set Brandon Taylor has fallen? Zimbabwe are 128 for 4 now. Pakistan really needs to tighten things up if they want to capitalize upon this wicket. It was Umar Akmal who caught that one behind the wickets.
Hahahahaha yayyyyyy!!!! Thank god Khatmal didn t drop that xD
— Ibtihaj (@IbtihajKhurram) March 1, 2015
Pakistanis have started to give up hope already. It s a bit early though.
Zimbabwe should win this game convincingly. Simply coz of one main reason: they deserve it. Thanks #PakvsZim
— Ajmal Jami (@ajmaljami) March 1, 2015
Zimbabwe are scoring freely. Afridi doesn t seem threatening at all. Batsmen are easily rotating the strike and also picking the odd boundary available. Umar Akmal has again started missing the balls behind the stumps. Pakistan needs luck here to pull this one off.

Are we going to see an upset today that actually won t be much of an upset? #PakvsZim
— Saba S. Sheikh (@sabassheikh) March 1, 2015 27 overs: Zimbabwe are 116 for 3 and looking good.
Williams has taken the attack to Irfan and that has literaly shaken up the gentle giant. One on the leg side, one way above keeper s head. 15 runs off the 24th over settle Zimbabweans a bit.

24 overs: Brilliant over for Zimbabwe. Williams takes the total to 98 for 3. He was helped by Irfan s 5Wides as well.
Celebrations for Pakistan fans finally..
Going to celebrate that catch by consuming gajjar ka halwa!! #PakvZim #cwc15
— Samar Ata-Ullah (@Sata18G) March 1, 2015
Mohammad Irfan has now taken all three of Zimbabwe s three fallen wickets.
Pakistan gets the third one. Misbah has taken an excellent catch running back. Masakadza is gone!
21 overs: Zimbabwe are 74 for 2 after 21 overs. They need 162 off 174 balls now and have 8 wickets in hand. Afridi s first over was good; gave two runs away only.
Shahid Afridi has had a bad birthday with the bat today. Will he make up for it with his bowling? Lala has been introduced into the attack.
Shahid afridi s spell is crucial. Three wickets for him can restore his pride. #PakvsZim
— Rao Jee (@raoo512) March 1, 2015
Pakistan certainly needs a wicket as soon as possible.
In need to break the 3rd wicket partnership #PakvsZim
— Alam (@AlamKami) March 1, 2015 18 overs: 58 for the loss of 2 now. Taylor and Masakadza have found their feet now and are beginning to bat freely.
Zimbabwe fans telling Taylor to calm down and try to build partnership.
Taylor is wobbly,he needs to settle & make sure he establish a massive strong solid partnership with Masakadza #PAKVZIM #CW15
— Chinemo Elias (@EliasChinemo) March 1, 2015
There is smell of a wicket in the air. Fans and players can sniff it. But unable to locate it as yet.
Good tight bowling by Rahat and Wahab. Pressure is on Zimbabwe.. Wicket just around the corner.. Come on boys... #GoGreen #Cricket #PakvsZim
— The Team Pakistan (@TheTeamPakistan) March 1, 2015 15 overs: Zimbabwe are 47 for 2. Wahab Riaz and Rahat Ali have bowled three excellent overs here. They re giving it their heart out for sure.
An excellent 13th over by Rahat Ali. Every ball seemed to trouble the batsman.
Rahat hitting excellent areas, heart in mouth stuff #PakvsZim
— Marcus Feaver (@marcusfeaver) March 1, 2015
There s no doubt about that anyways.
Zimbabwean cricket has improved a lot. They no longer push overs of the past world cups. #PakvsZim #cwc2015
— matome senyolo (@matomesenyolo) March 1, 2015 12 overs: Zimbabwe are now 44 for the loss of 2. There ve been a couple of good shouts but the batsmen are now looking set.
Is that a missed chance? There was probably glove hitting the ball on its way to the wicket-keeper. Misbah was anxious to review the umpiring decision but other fielders convinced him not to. There certainly is some deviation in the line when snicko checks it. Nothing for Pakistan though.
That s quite close, go for the review #CWC15 #PAKvZIM
— Robert Moore (@Robert_Moore24) March 1, 2015 9 overs: Zimbabwe are 24 for 2.
Excuses us, please. What?
My man Irfan!!!!! Great bowling #CWC15
— Shoaib Malik (@realshoaibmalik) March 1, 2015

Pakistan fans finally have something to cheer. Hope the joy isn t short-lived.
I want to kiss Mohammad Irfan but my lips won t reach to his cheeks. #PakvsZim
— Hasan Ali (@hasanpakistan) March 1, 2015
Irfan, and Pakistan, get their second one. Sikandar Raza is gone and Pakistan is almost about to stage a come back after a dismal batting performance in this all-important game of the World Cup.
.jpg)
6 overs: Zimbabwe are now 17 for 1 and looking to find their feet.
Pakistan gets the first wicket. That one was banged short by Irfan and Chibhabha had no answer to it. Haris Sohail took a simple catch in the second slip. Zimbabwe are now 14 for 1.
3 overs: Zimbabwe are 5 for no loss.
Zimbabwe has come on to the field to chase down Pakistan s total. Sikandar Raza and Chibhabha are going to start the proceedings for Zimbabwe.
.jpg)
Pakistan have scored 235 off their allotted 50 overs. Wahab Riaz has done exceptionally well here for his 54 off 46. He had a bit of luck but struck the ball with sheer force and took Pakistan to a semi-competitive total.
Wohoooooob .. competitive score at least ... credits to Kaptaan and a bowler for saving the face #PakvsZim
— Abubakar Umer (@abubakarumer) March 1, 2015
This is now Wahab Riaz s highest score in ODIs. A very useful innings #PakvsZim
— Zahid Munir (@Zahidcricket) March 1, 2015
The only Paki who has an Australian attitude WAHAB RIAZ #NeverGiveUp #PakvsZim
— Armani (@Roddriguez1) March 1, 2015 50 overs: Pakistan have completed their innings and scored 235 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Wahab Riaz was brilliant in those final overs.
Dropped again. Position is the same but this time the batsman was Sohail Khan.
Wahab Riaz has been dropped again. This time at deep square leg.
Last two overs now. And Pakistan looking for some big hits to get them to somewhere around 235 or 240.
"They ve improved death-wise," says TV guy about #Zimbabwe . I know what he means #cwc15
— David James (@DaveJamesafp) March 1, 2015 48 overs: Pakistan are 218 for 7 now. Wahab Riaz got a new life on the last ball. Had that throw hit the wickets, it would have been curtains for him.
Captain s knock is finally over. After scoring 73 off 121 balls, Misbah has skied one up that has been caught at the long-on boundary. Pakistan are now 202 for 7 after 46.1 overs.
Can Pakistan still score 250?
Misbah, please make another thirty and give us a reason to cheer #PAKvZIM
— Zulfikar (@_TheShah_) March 1, 2015 45 overs: Pakistan are now 192 for 6 after 45 overs. Wahab Riaz is showing some courage now.
Sarcasm was due though.
BREAKING: Pakistan to injure a randomly-selected batsman tomorrow. His place will be taken by recalled veteran Hanif Mohammad, aged 80.
— Andy Zaltzman (@ZaltzCricket) March 1, 2015
Misbah s war on Zimbabwe continues..

That human tendency to hope against the hope....
Run rate of 9 per over for the last ten overs. We do alright. #PAKvZIM
— Rida Ahmed (@Ridizil) March 1, 2015 42 overs: Pakistan are 177 for 6. 250 is still in sight but getting dimmer and dimmer every passing ball.
This is what fans had to say. Though we don t seem to be a competition to even Zimbabwe right now.
We were wrongly disappointed when India & West Indies beat us. Our real competitors are teams like Zimbabwe and UAE. Go Boys Go! #PakvsZim
— Baji Please (@BajiPlease) March 1, 2015

Zimbabwe fans in the crowd are jubilant. And they have every reason to be so.

39 overs: Pakistan are 158 for 6 and Misbah seems to be the only hope. He is trying to pick up the pace but "kings are dying like flies" at the other end.
And Sohaib Maqsood is gone as well. He was looking nice with 21 off 17 balls but that ball just gripped off the pitch and while he was trying to work that one towards mid-wicket for a single, it took the leading edge back to the bowler. Pakistan are now 155 for 6. Each time they have looked okay, something terrible has happened. Wahab Riaz now joins Misbah.
Meanwhile, Misbah completed his 50. He is now at 60. Let s have a look at how he achieved the individual milestone.
And Maqsood has been dropped. He was at 2. He celebrates it with a massive heave over the cover boundary, gets 4.
Ohh well..
Fans are thoroughly disappointed.
Happy birthday lala thanks for doing a catwalk on the field for all your lovely fans. #PakvsZim
— Abdul Sattar Edhi (@EdhiAbdulSattar) March 1, 2015 36 overs: Pakistan are 138 for the loss of 5 wickets as their last recognized batting pair, in the shape of Misbah and the new batsman Sohaib Maqsood, struggles to take the total to somewhere near 200/
This is unbelievable. Some are laughing though.
Buhahahahhahahaha Lala #HappyBirthdayGoldenDuck
— Ali Xaidi (@ali_raa) March 1, 2015
Shahid Afridi has literally turned it into a memorable birthday. Gone for a duck. Similar delivery. Unplayable. Pakistan now dragging. 127 for 5 after 33.5 overs.

However, Lala has come on to bat. Remember: It s his birthday. Can he turn it into a memorable one?

And Umar Akmal has been undone by a beauty by Williams. He is gone for 33 off 41 balls. And this is a massive blow to Pakistan s hopes of scoring a big total.
Misbah is, however, at work. Slow still but picking up gradually.

33 overs: Pakistan are now 126 for 3.
The partnership is gradually building up and may give Pakistan an edge in the end if both these batsmen continue and change their gears as well. It s drnks here and Pakistan are 121 for 3 after 32 overs.
A good 50-run partnership has developed between these two batsmen, and that too off just 54 balls.

Umar Akmal has really impressed the fans. But no one is sure about him.
Umar Akmal.. Dnt even think to throw ur wicket here.. U r playng beautifull here... #PampersFirsts
— Faizan ahmad (@FaizanAhmad1990) March 1, 2015 30 overs: Pakistan 113 for 3. Umar Akmal seems to be in form. Hope he continues till the end of the fiftieth over.
And yes. The dream has finally realized. Pakistan at last reaches its 100.
Can you believe this ? Pakistan has reached 100 runs milestone. #CWC15
— kAptslim (@kAptslim) March 1, 2015
Umar Akmal has scored 16 off 19 and the scorecard finally seems to be moving now.

27 overs: Pakistan are now 90 for 3. Umar Akmal is "shaping up nicely here", says Ramiz Raja.
Misbah is now 32 off 75 balls. His strike rate is still below 50%.
When u hear crowd cheering even singles- then know that #Misbah is batting #PAKvsZIM
— Quratulain Fatima (@moodee_q) March 1, 2015 24 overs: Pakistan are 73 for 3 after 24 overs.
With this strike rate, Pakistan is destined to fall well short of 300, which is a must against this Zimbabwe side that has scored more than 270 twice so far in this tournament. Pakistan must remember that they have got no AB de Villiers coming in later on and covering the mess up.
"No worry. De Villier score 160 in 10 over" I tell Waqar. Waqar slap me & point at boys. "Where you see De Villier?" he ask. True. #PakvsZim
— Nasir Jamshed (@NasirJamshed_) March 1, 2015 21 overs: Pakistan are 62 for 3. Haris Sohail has left and Umar Akmal has now joined skipper Misbahul Haq in the middle.
And just when it looked like Pakistan was gaining some momentum, Haris Sohail has hit one straight into the hands of Sean Williams off Sikandar Raza s bowling. They are 58 for 3 now.
Misbah doesn t seem to be making a point with his 19 off 53 balls.
@Salzyzaman @ali_raa Misbah actually takes pakistan out of the game with his strike rate in the name of stabalization.

Internet is flooded with jokes like this one.

Indians were seen poking fun at this performance by Pakistan. And they have every right to do so.
Really hope Pak wins & gets to burst those crackers because I am strictly against wastage & this game is their only chance :P #PakvsZim
— Rashi Kakkar (@rashi_kakkar) March 1, 2015 15 overs: Pakistan are now 33 for 2. These were the best 3 overs we have had so far.
Haris Sohail timed one well but wasn t able to get it over the rope. The ball landed and became almost stationery the moment it hit the ground. Nevertheless, Misbah and Haris have run four, making it the second four of the innings in 13 overs.
And this has become hilarious for Pakistani fans already.
time to leave the earth #PakvsZim pic.twitter.com/cYX6JhrNQ8
— Ammad (@OyeeAmmaad) March 1, 2015 12 overs: After 12 overs, Pakistan are still looking to find their feet. They are now 17 for 2 and Haris Sohail has played a couple of strokes during that last over that indicated that he is about to lose his head. The bat-swing was reckless and he should be happy to be still out there.

Good news, however, is that Pakistanis are not the only nation of cynics in the world.
