Summary A.B. de Villiers passed fitness test to play World Cup warm-up match against New Zealand.
CHRISTCHURCH (AP) - South Africa captain A.B. de Villiers was passed fit to rejoin the lineup against New Zealand at Hagley Oval on Wednesday, his team s last warm-up match ahead of the World Cup.
De Villiers complained of stiffness in one hip when he missed a rain-shortened warm-up against Sri Lanka on Monday which the Proteas won by five wickets.
Team spokesman Lerato Malekutu said de Villiers omission was "merely a precautionary measure to ensure he doesn t suffer any further discomfort."
South Africa decided to use all 15 squad members in Wednesday s match, which is not an official one-day international.
New Zealand s Brendon McCullum won the toss and decided his team would bat on the ground on which it will play Sri Lanka in the opening World Cup match on Saturday.
