Summary Coach Darren Lehmann was far from pleased with the slow over rate.
SYDNEY (AFP) - Australia s one-day stand-in captain George Bailey has been suspended for one game following a second over rate offence and fined 20 percent of his match fee.
The International Cricket Council also announced late Monday that his players have been fined 10 percent of their match fees for the slow turnover during Australia s win against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.
The elite panel of ICC match referees imposed the suspension on Bailey ruling Australia were one over short of its target at the end of the match when time allowances were taken into consideration.
It was Bailey s second minor over rate offence within the last 12 months and he pleaded guilty and accepted the sanction in accordance with Article 2.5.1 and Appendix 2 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
He will sit out Australia s next one-day international which is against England in Hobart on Friday.
Cameron White and Shaun Marsh are leading candidates to take Bailey s spot for Hobart while Steve Smith is expected to lead Australia seeking to make it three one-day wins on the trot in the tri-series.
Coach Darren Lehmann was far from pleased with the slow over rate.
"We should be able to get through in three-and-a-half hours with no dramas," Lehmann said.
"We were slow and we ve spoken about getting better at that. I spoke to them quite firmly. We don t want that happening
