DUBAI (AP) - Sarfraz Ahmed smashed his third test century of the year and quashed New Zealand s hopes of a big lead in the second test with a record last-wicket stand for Pakistan on Thursday.
Ahmed was unbeaten on a career-best 111 and farmed the strike with No. 11 Rahat Ali (16 not out) to frustrate New Zealand as Pakistan progressed to 392-9 at lunch on day four, trailing by only 11 runs.
Tim Southee s twin strikes early had Pakistan reeling at 312-9 before Ahmed put on 80 runs with Ali to raise Pakistan s best 10th-wicket stand against New Zealand.
Ahmed raced to his century by hitting spinners Mark Craig and Ish Sodhi for three boundaries each in back-to-back overs before cutting Southee to the point boundary.
