DUBAI (AP) - The International Cricket Council will trail a system where communication between on-field and TV umpires is available to broadcasters during the limited-overs international series between Australia and South Africa starting Friday, with a view to introducing it for the World Cup.
The ICC issued a statement Wednesday saying the umpire communications can be aired during umpire referrals, consultations and the DRS player reviews during the five-game series.
If successful, it could be extended to selected matches in the 2015 World Cup.
ICC cricket general manager Geoff Allardice says: "For years viewers have enjoyed seeing the same pictures as the TV umpire and making their own decisions during a referral or review. Now they will be even closer to the game, hearing what the umpire is saying when making those decisions."
