Summary Jesse Ryder has made his first steps toward winning a place at next year's cricket World Cup.
WELLINGTON (AP) - Batsman Jesse Ryder has made his first steps toward winning a place at next year s cricket World Cup after being included in a New Zealand A cricket team which will play matches against Ireland, Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates next month.
Ryder hasn t been considered for New Zealand selection since January when he was involved in a late night drinking session on the eve of the first test against India.
Selection manager Bruce Edgar says his selection in the 13-man squad to play in Dubai wasn t a sign his return to the full New Zealand team is imminent.
"It s an important step for Jesse but it is only a first steps. His future prospects will depend on his performance on and off the field in Dubai," Edgar says.
