ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court has declared the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) constitution and notification illegal.

A two-member bench of apex court heard the case pertaining to the appointment of PCB chairman on Friday.

As soon as the hearing began, the Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt said the PM had directed that the governing body should keep on working, adding that the PM had also advised to keep the interim setup as it is.

One of the judges replied that the recent notification was not needed after the ruling of Islamabad High Court. The matter was sub-judice and the PCB issued the notification.

Justice Saqib Nisar questioned if the attorney general was trying to disrespect the court ruling?

He suggested that both Zaka Ashraf and Najam Sethi can be included in the governing body, adding that the one who wins majority should then be appointed as PCB chairman.

The counsel for Zaka Ashraf said they were ready to work this way while the attorney general reiterated that such step was not possible under the PCB constitution.

Justice Saqib Nisar again questioned as to which law was considered while making PCB's constitution?

Following the approval of PCB constitution by PM, a notification was issued by attorney general yesterday.

Justice (R) Jamshed Ali Shah was appointed as acting chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for next 30 days.

Meanwhile, Najam Sethi was removed from the post of chairmanship and the Prime Minister barred the PCB management committee from working.
