Wasim Akram, Shaniera Thompson tie knot
Wasim Akram and his Australian girlfriend have got married in a simple ceremony in Lahore.
KARACHI (Web Desk) - Former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram Wednesday announced that he had married his Australian girlfriend, Shaniera Thompson.
Wasim told media that he had married Shaniera in Lahore last week in a simple ceremony.
First wife of Wasim Akram, now 47, Huma died in 2009 after multiple organ failure.
Wasim proposed to 30-year-old Thompson, a former public relations consultant.
Thompson came to Karachi earlier this month before going to Lahore to see Wasim’s ailing father, where the marriage was solemnised.
“She has embraced Islam and is learning our language. She has been close to my two sons and they form a very good bond,” said Wasim.
According to reports the Nikah ceremony took place in Lahore in a small gathering, attended only by family members.
Akram announced his engagement with Shaniera Thompson two months back.
Wasim said that Shinera will settle in Pakistan. She has reportedly converted to Islam.
