Summary Harris' career-best bowling display couldn't loosen England's grip on the fourth Ashes test.

CHESTER-LE-STREET (AP) Ryan Harris  career-best bowling display couldn t loosen England s grip on the fourth Ashes test on Monday as Australia was set a formidable target of 299 in an eventful first session on day four.

Big-hitting Tim Bresnan crashed a potentially match-defining 45 before being one of four Harris victims, with the rampant paceman claiming figures of 7-117 as he ripped through England s lower-order.

England went on the attack to add 96 runs to their overnight 234-5 before being bowled out for 330. By lunch, Australia was 11-0 288 behind.

Australia must win at Chester-le-Street to keep alive hopes of drawing the five-match series. England is 2-0 ahead and has already retained the Ashes.
