New Zealand seeks new cricket selection manager

Summary New Zealand Cricket will advertise for new national selection manager next week.

WELLINGTON (AP) - New Zealand Cricket says national selection manager Kim Littlejohn will not reapply for his job when the position is advertised later this week.

Australian Littlejohn was a contentious appointment to the position two years ago because he came from a background in lawn bowls and baseball. He was sought by New Zealand s director of coaching, former Australia coach John Buchanan, who hoped to implement a more statistics-based approach to selection.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White said Littlejohn had done a good job but the new appointee would be "someone with more cricketing knowledge and experience at first-class and international level; someone with a strong knowledge of the New Zealand cricket environment."
