Summary Clarke has long been troubled by a back injury.
LONDON (AP) - Australia captain Michael Clarke will miss the Champions Trophy match against England on Saturday due to a chronic back injury.
Clarke was absent from warm-up games against West Indies and India and his fitness will be a concern ahead of the July 10 start of the Ashes series at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
Australia physiotherapist Alex Kountouris says "Michael is making steady progress from his recent lower back injury but is yet to return to training."
Kountouris adds "how he responds to the ongoing treatment will determine his availability for the match against New Zealand next Wednesday."
Clarke has long been troubled by a back injury, which has curtailed his ability to bowl part-time spinners.
