Spot-fixing case: Danish Kaneria faces ECB panel

Summary The hearing of match-fixing case against Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria continued on Tuesday.

Pakistani leg-spinner Danish Kaneria appeared before the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) hearing into the spot-fixing.According to the sources, the venue of the hearing was kept secret to avoid the media coverage.Kaneria’s counsel Barrister Farogh Naseem said that the proceedings of the first day’s hearing remained in favour of his client and he hoped that Kaneria would be declared innocent.The sources added that future of the leg-spinner is expected to be decided within next two or three days.It is worth mentioning that the ECB committee had charged Kaneria and his former Essex teammate Mervyn Westfield with spot-fixing.Westfield was given a short jail sentence by a crown court in February after pleading guilty to having taken 6,000 pounds to bowl wides in a Pro-40 match between Essex and Durham played in 2009 in English county season.Kaneria has not played for Pakistan since August 2010 as the Pakistan Cricket Board has not cleared him for selection due to integrity issues following his questioning by the Essex police.
