Summary SM Tanveer says Pakistan is prioritising district and sectoral economies, with 100-day development roadmaps and quarterly performance reviews planned.

PESHAWAR (Dunya NewS) – Pakistan is placing greater emphasis on district-level and sector-specific economic development to accelerate national growth, United Business Group (UBG) Chairman SM Tanveer has said, calling for a more structured approach to improving economic performance across the country.

Addressing a ceremony in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tanveer said all relevant members would be required to present a roadmap outlining their priorities and targets for the first 100 days. Their performance would then be reviewed every three months to assess progress and ensure accountability.

He stressed the importance of active participation from business representatives, saying the country's economic development required a coordinated effort and sustained commitment from all stakeholders.

100-day roadmap

During his address, Tanveer also made a remark about the provincial governor, congratulating him and saying that he had effectively received the powers of the chief minister as well.

The UBG chairman said he had been in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the past three days and had received reports indicating an improvement in the province's law and order situation.

He noted that the security situation had remained a major challenge for the province, with three years of continued conflict taking a heavy toll on economic activity across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Tanveer, the prolonged fighting had affected the economy throughout the province, resulting in considerable losses and disrupting its economic progress.

Economic performance

Tanveer also outlined changes in the committee structure at the federation, saying a decision had been taken against establishing unnecessary committees.

Instead, members joining the federation would automatically become part of the relevant committee, avoiding the creation of additional structures and keeping the process more streamlined.

He said the shared objective was to strengthen Pakistan's economy and achieve meaningful economic development through collective efforts.

For this purpose, all members would need to devote substantial time and attention to their respective chambers, ensuring that business organisations played an active role in supporting economic growth.

Tanveer reiterated that district-level and sectoral economies would remain central to the group's approach, with performance monitoring and clearly defined responsibilities forming part of its strategy.
