ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Pakistan has set a new record by exporting fisheries products worth approximately $570 million to global markets during fiscal year 2026.
The arrival of Pakistani seafood products on stores across the European Union during the fiscal year has helped restore international confidence in the country’s fisheries exports.
According to the Marine Fisheries Department, Pakistan could increase its fisheries exports to $3 billion by focusing on value-added products instead of exporting raw materials.
The department said global conditions had changed significantly for Pakistan after what it described as one of the most challenging quarters of the new century. It stressed the need to capitalize on the diverse quality and taste of Pakistani commodities through greater value addition.
The Marine Fisheries Department highlighted the progress made in regaining access to the European market. The European Union had imposed a complete ban on fisheries imports from Pakistan in 2007. In 2013, four Pakistani companies were granted partial access to the market.
After years of efforts, the department said, confidence among European brands in Pakistani fisheries products had now been restored.
