Summary Finance Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kiani said Pakistan’s digital banking users have reached 137 million, while digital government payments rose to 76 per cent.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kiani has claimed that the number of digital banking users in Pakistan has reached 137 million, reflecting a significant expansion of digital financial services across the country.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Kiani said the government was working to make digital payment services simpler and more convenient for citizens.
He said the Raast instant payment system had played an important role in promoting digital transactions, while the government had also provided subsidies on the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) to encourage QR code-based payments.
Kiani said significant progress had also been made in the digitalisation of government payments. According to him, digital payments by major government entities had increased from 9 per cent to 76 per cent.
The minister said practical measures were being taken to move Pakistan towards a cashless economy, with both the public and private sectors working together to expand digital payment infrastructure.
He added that the number of merchants using digital payment facilities had also crossed 2 million, describing the development as evidence of the growing adoption of digital financial services in Pakistan.
The government believes wider use of digital payments can improve transaction efficiency, reduce reliance on cash and support greater transparency in financial transactions.
