Summary A deadlock over official roti prices has emerged in Lahore, with tandoor owners warning they will charge Rs25 if their demands remain unmet.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – A fresh deadlock has emerged between the Punjab government and the United Naan Roti Association over the official price of roti, with tandoor owners warning they will increase the price to Rs25 if their demands are not accepted.
The announcement came after a meeting of the United Naan Roti Association's Lahore district chapter, which said soaring flour prices had significantly increased production costs and placed severe financial pressure on tandoor owners.
The association said the continued rise in the price of flour had made it impossible to sell roti at the government-fixed rate, forcing bakery and tandoor operators to absorb substantial losses.
According to the association, it has repeatedly informed the relevant authorities about the situation but no effective action has yet been taken to address the issue.
The group urged the government to revise the official roti price in line with current flour rates and overall production costs.
It warned that if its demands were ignored, tandoor owners would begin charging Rs25 per roti, consider shutting down their businesses and launch protest demonstrations.
The Punjab government has not yet issued an official response to the association's latest announcement.
