Summary For vehicles above 2,000cc, the proposed tax rate would increase from 0.3 percent to 0.4 percent of the invoice value.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has proposed a significant increase in token tax rates on commercial loader vehicles in the provincial budget for 2026-27.

According to official budget documents, instead of introducing new taxes, the government plans to raise the rates of existing taxes. The most notable change is a proposal to increase token tax on commercial loader vehicles by up to three times.

Under the proposed structure, tax on vehicles carrying loads between 4,060 kg and 8,110 kg would rise from Rs2,200 to Rs6,600. Similarly, vehicles with a load capacity of 8,120 kg to 12,000 kg may see their tax increase from Rs4,000 to Rs12,000.

For heavier vehicles, the tax on those with a load capacity between 12,000 kg and 16,000 kg is proposed to rise from Rs6,000 to Rs18,000, while vehicles carrying more than 16,000 kg could see their tax increase from Rs8,000 to Rs24,000.

The documents also indicate a planned increase in token tax for private vehicles with engine capacities above 1,000cc. For cars between 1,000cc and 2,000cc, the tax is expected to rise by 0.1 percent of the invoice value.

For vehicles above 2,000cc, the proposed tax rate would increase from 0.3 percent to 0.4 percent of the invoice value.

Officials say the adjustments are part of broader fiscal measures aimed at improving provincial revenue without introducing entirely new tax categories.
