ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The federal government has reduced the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs4 and Rs2 per litre, respectively, for the week ending June 19, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division on Friday.

The revised fuel prices will take effect from midnight on June 13.

Following the reduction, the price of petrol has been lowered to Rs373.78 per litre from Rs377.78, while the price of high-speed diesel has been cut to Rs378.78 per litre from Rs380.78.

Pakistan has been reviewing petroleum prices on a weekly basis amid volatility in global energy markets following the escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

The ongoing conflict involving Iran has raised concerns over international oil supplies, particularly after disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route through which nearly one-fifth of the world's oil and gas supplies pass during peacetime.

Petrol is primarily used by motorists, motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers, making its price a key factor in the daily expenses of middle- and lower-income households.

Meanwhile, high-speed diesel is widely used in the transport and agricultural sectors, including trucks, buses, trains, tractors, tube wells and threshers.
