ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that the upcoming federal budget will include measures aimed at providing relief to the public, as the government moves to bring the informal economy into the tax net and broaden the revenue base.

The prime minister made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of leading industrialists and prominent business figures, held as part of consultations on the federal budget 2026–27 and efforts to accelerate overall economic growth.

Welcoming the delegation, the prime minister said business leaders were “ambassadors of Pakistan” who represent the country globally, and expressed gratitude for their support during challenging economic conditions.

He said strong partnership between the government and the private sector was essential for sustainable economic growth, adding that policymaking in Pakistan was being shaped in consultation with the business community. He reiterated that export-led growth remained the core focus of the country’s economic strategy.

Shehbaz Sharif said steps were being taken to document the economy and expand the tax base, while also ensuring relief for the public in the upcoming budget. He added that business-friendly policies had helped stabilize the economy and restore investor confidence.

The prime minister said growth in industry, agriculture, and information technology would further strengthen the economy and generate employment opportunities. He also highlighted ongoing technical and vocational training programs aimed at equipping youth with skills for employment and national development.

During the meeting, the delegation was briefed on government initiatives for the promotion of industry, trade, and business activity.

The business leaders appreciated the government’s economic reforms, digital payment initiatives, and efforts to promote a documented economy. They also welcomed steps on tax reforms, improved business facilitation, and timely tax refunds.

They expressed gratitude for reductions in electricity tariffs for industries, the removal of the Export Development Levy, and efforts to improve the business environment. The delegation also appreciated consultations on the upcoming budget and expressed confidence in the government’s economic direction.

Members of the delegation included prominent industrialists and business figures such as Mian Muhammad Mansha, Arif Habib, Aatif Bajwa, and others.
