KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has reported the registration of 3,161 new companies during May, with 99.9% of incorporations completed through its online system.

According to official data, the total number of registered companies in Pakistan has now risen to 297,239, reflecting growing business activity and increased confidence in formal economic structures.

The provincial breakdown shows Punjab leading with 1,643 new companies, followed by Islamabad with 596, Sindh with 479, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 260, Gilgit-Baltistan with 112, and Balochistan with 71 registrations.

Sector-wise, the information technology sector remained the top contributor with 598 new companies. It was followed by trading with 503, services with 404, and real estate and construction with 303 new firms. Tourism and transport also recorded notable activity with 206 new companies registered.

The SECP also noted participation from foreign investors across 17 countries. Chinese shareholders were among the most active, with 89 directors taking positions in various companies. The total paid-up capital from foreign investors was recorded at Rs139.4 million.

Officials said the trend reflects increasing digitisation of business registration processes and growing investor confidence in Pakistan’s corporate sector.
