Summary ECC approves Rs6bn for PIA dues, clears import-export scheme for vehicles, allows donkey meat exports, bans forced labor goods imports and sanctions funds for key sectors

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - An Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb approved funds for various ministries.

The ECC approved nearly Rs6 billion for the payment of dues to employees of Pakistan International Airlines and also cleared an import-cum-export scheme related to vehicles and auto parts.

A total of Rs5.98 billion was sanctioned for the national airline’s employees, which will be disbursed through PIA Holding Company Limited for pensions, salaries and medical expenses.

The committee directed that the matter of payments of National Insurance Company Limited be taken up with the relevant revenue authority for adjustment, while amendments to the import-cum-export and export facilitation schemes were also approved.

Under the scheme, temporary import of used vehicles and auto parts will be allowed for repair, refurbishment and subsequent export, with the pilot project to be reviewed after one year.

A summary by the Ministry of National Food Security regarding exports of donkey meat and hides from a slaughterhouse in Gwadar was also approved, allowing exports to China and other countries. The ECC also decided to impose a complete ban on the import of goods produced through forced labour.

Funds amounting to Rs311 million were approved for officers in Balochistan, Rs372 million for digital transformation of National Accountability Bureau and Rs30 million as reward money for the national hockey team.

The committee also directed that a summary from the Power Division regarding a public interest agreement be referred to the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises for further consideration.
