The government increased petrol levy by Rs1.60 per litre and reduced diesel levy by the same amount. Diesel prices, however, rose by Rs6, while petrol prices remain unchanged for 15 days.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has hiked the petrol levy by Rs1.60 per litre, pushing it up to Rs79.62 per litre, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The decision, applied from November 16, comes at a time when people are already feeling the pinch, adding yet another burden to motorists who are trying to make ends meet.
At the same time, the government has cut the petroleum levy on high-speed diesel by Rs1.60 per litre, bringing it down to Rs75.41 per litre from the previous Rs77.01. Despite the small relief in levy, diesel users are still left high and dry, as the government recently jacked up diesel prices by Rs6 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs284.44.
Officials added that petrol prices will remain unchanged for the next 15 days, a move seen as an attempt to keep things steady amid rising economic pressure.
However, consumers say the frequent adjustments are making it hard to keep their heads above water.
