(Web Desk) – The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has named Leah Gutierrez as the new Director General for its Central and West Asia Department, effective Monday.

In her new role, Ms. Gutierrez will oversee ADB’s strategic initiatives and partnerships across 11 countries: Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

“It is a privilege to take on this role. I look forward to working closely with developing member countries and partners to advance inclusive growth, regional collaboration, and sustainable development,” she said.

With more than 40 years of professional experience, including 25 at ADB, Ms. Gutierrez most recently led ADB’s Sectors Department 3, managing operations in finance, social development, and governance. She has also served as Director General of the Pacific Department and held senior positions in strategy, policy, partnerships, and regional operations.

A citizen of the Philippines, Ms. Gutierrez holds a PhD and Master’s in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor's in Business Economics from the University of the Philippines.
