Cement sale down locally during current fiscal year

Cement sale decreased locally while exports increased during fiscal year 2008-09. According to the JS Research report, during the fiscal year 2008-09 cement sale in local markets reduced to 193 million ton, down by 14 percent. The cumulative sale during year 2009 amounted to 306 million ton with an increase of 2 percent. Economic slowdown, uncertain political situation and law and order situation caused the construction works to go down which resulted in decline of cement sale in the country. Manufacturers expect that with an increase in development budget and reduction in excise duty on cement would stimulate construction activities.
