ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Leghari announced a significant restructuring of the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC), which has now been divided into three entities aimed at streamlining operations within the power sector.

Speaking to the media Leghari emphasised that the government remains committed to delivering on its promises of reducing electricity costs and providing relief to consumers.

"Electricity has been made more affordable for both industrial and domestic users, reflecting our commitment to easing financial burdens on the public," he stated.

The minister attributed the high electricity costs to delays in completing transmission line projects, adding that such inefficiencies have impacted the sector for years. "In the past, NTDC suffered due to mismanagement. However, the government is now implementing a reform agenda to improve sector performance," he explained.

Under this new structure, one of the newly formed companies will handle the purchase and sale of electricity, while another will focus exclusively on completing infrastructure projects. The government, Leghari noted, aims to expedite the completion of projects initially set for 2026, with a new target of 2018.

"We have surplus electricity, and our goal is to encourage people to utilise this affordable power instead of relying on costly gas. The energy system can no longer tolerate delays, and we are committed to offering biannual relief packages for consumers," Minister Leghari added. He also underscored the government's focus on increasing access to inexpensive electricity across the country.
