Women empowerment imperative for country’s progress, prosperity, President Alvi says
ISLAMABAD (APP) – President Dr Arif Alvi stated on Wednesday that empowering women in every field of life is imperative for the progress and development of the country.
Addressing the 1st LCCI Women Entrepreneurs Recognition Ceremony 2024 at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president lauded the role of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in contributing to the empowerment of women.
He highlighted that the LCCI was the first chamber to arrange awards for women entrepreneurs and encouraged other chambers to follow the suit.
The president suggested that the LCCI trained and prepared women in such a way that they could work anywhere in the world.
He acknowledged the LCCI's support for various programmes initiated by First Lady Samina Alvi, such as awareness campaigns related to breast cancer and persons with disabilities.
The president noted tangible evidence that the breast cancer awareness drive had led to more women receiving early diagnoses of the disease.
Highlighting the support he received from his wife in politics and other activities, the president expressed concern about women in the country often leaving their professions after marriage, which he considered a waste of the country’s resources. He advocated for women working shoulder to shoulder with men for the development of the country.
Earlier, the president conferred awards on women entrepreneurs for their services.
