Pledges disciplinary proceedings
(Web Desk) - Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Sunday said government workers who participate in a walk out to protest President Joe Biden's policies regarding the conflict between Hamas and Israel "deserve to be fired."
The House leader pledged that he would work with House Oversight Chair James Comer, R-Ky., to initiate disciplinary proceedings against those who participate in the walkout.
"Any government worker who walks off the job to protest U.S. support for our ally Israel is ignoring their responsibility and abusing the trust of taxpayers," Johnson said in a statement on X.
The speaker's vow came in response to reports that hundreds of federal government employees are planning to walk out on Tuesday to protest of the Biden administration's handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
There was no immediate response to Johnson's threats from labor associations or unions concerning workers' First Amendment rights and employment protections under various contracts.
