In the first phase the toll tax will be reduced for cars having 800cc engine or less

 ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government has introduced an environment and economy-friendly transport energy saving policy. The policy includes multiple mechanisms to provide relief to middle-class strata.

According to the information about policy, new toll tax slabs for cars will be introduced, petrol will be made cheaper, and mass transit transport mechanism will be aptly set-up. Like other countries, cars will also be scrapped upon reaching the end of their lifespan.

The government's environment and economy-friendly energy saving policy will be implemented in phases to curb the carbon emissions in the atmosphere.

According to the document, in the first phase, the toll tax will be reduced for 800cc cars on motorways and highways, whereas toll tax for cars above 800cc will be higher.

In the second phase, the petrol saving scheme will also be launched for 800cc cars, and a mass transit transport system will be formulated for major cities of the country.

According to the document, the transport energy saving plan will save 2.40 trillion litres of oil annually, and 7.7 million tons of carbon emissions will be reduced in the atmosphere.

Also, Germany pledged €120 million to help fight climate change in Pakistan, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Senator Sherry Rehman said after a bilateral meeting with a delegation led by Minister Svenja Schulze from Germany.

The pledged fund is mainly to help the affectees of recent floods and climate change, the climate extremism is wreaking havoc over the country and exacerbated since the 2010 floods. The country also faced severe floods in 2022 affecting millions in the country
