Kandahar Customs Chief said 50 cargo tankers are waiting clearance and will reach Pakistan soon

 CHAMAN (Web Desk) - In order to control the prevalent energy crisis in Pakistan, the supply of cheap liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Turkmenistan to Pakistan through Afghanistan has started.

Customs officials in Chaman have reported that the first shipment of 160 tons of LPG in three tankers, according to the import agreement, arrived at the Chaman border via the Bab-e-Dosti route from Turkmenistan transiting through Afghanistan.

After formalities, these tankers will be sent to Peshawar while another 10 tankers, carrying a total of 600 tons of LPG, have arrived from Spin Boldak and waiting for clearance at the Border Trade Terminal.

On the other hand, according to Kandahar Customs Chief Molvi Mohammad Hamid Ahmed, 50 cargo tankers have arrived from Turkmenistan and will be transported to Pakistan after completing the clearance process.

He said that there would be no obstacle or delay in the supply of gas from Central Asia to Pakistan via the Afghanistan transit route.


President of the LPG Plant Owner Association of Balochistan,Syed Naseem Agha, said that six months ago, PM Shehbaz Shareef had a meeting with the ambassador of Turkmenistan in Islamabad, which resulted in a high-level delegation visiting Turkmenistan and signing an agreement with Turkmanistan and Iran to obtain a 25% discount.

He said that by doing the first commercial trade with Turkmenistan's LPG plants, Pakistani traders have been given the opportunity to explore new trade routes.
