Ogra's colossal increase in prices leaves inflation-hit consumers gasping

Another blow to inflation-bitten public as Ogra hikes gas prices by up to 74%
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) on Wednesday increased the gas tariff for consumers, including household customers, of two Sui gas companies by up to 74 per cent.
The revised prices will come into effect from July 2022, said a notification issued by the regulatory. It added that the tariff of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Company Limited (SNGPL) and the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) had been increased for household consumers, commercial sector, tandoors, captive power plants and general industries.
Previously applicable slabs of gas consumption have been abolished by Ogra, fixing the new price at 952.17 per Million British Thermal Units (mmBtu) for the SNGPL consumers and Rs1,161.91/mmBtu for SSGC.
The regulator has sent its decision to the federal government for approval. Now, the government will decide on it within 40 days of this notification. If the government does not approve it, then it will automatically come into effect.
