Volkswagen launches most powerful hatch: Golf R

(Web Desk) - On Tuesday, Volkswagen (VW) announced the 2022 Golf R with 315-horsepower.

The engine is an "EA888" 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with peak HP improvement of 22, and torque has improved to 310 lb-ft from 2100 rpm to 5350 rpm. The Golf R also has bigger brakes and a six-speed manual or VW’s 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The all-wheel-drive system gets a major upgrade with rear-axle torque vectoring, sending all power to the left or right wheel, depending on the situation. It also enables a "Drift" mode, which disables stability control and adjusts the torque split to maximize the Golf R’s ability to slide.

The Golf R also gets the same exterior, interior, and tech upgrades as the standard Golf and GTI. It’s more angular outside and more refined inside, with the Audi-spec Digital Cockpit all-screen gauge cluster being the most notable change. Carbon accents and a new ambient lighting system are also included.

The Golf R will go on sale in late 2021 but the pricing is yet to be announced.
