The growth in urea sales also indicates the trust of the farmers in the sector and the government.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Urea sales witnessed a phenomenal jump of 84 percent YoY to 1,307k tonnes during December 2019 making it the highest monthly urea offtake historically.

On a yearly basis, urea offtake clocked in at 6,191 million tonnes that is 2nd highest yearly offtake after 2009. Pakistan’s domestic average demand of 5.8 million tonnes was met comfortably by local producers owing largely to prudent and timely government policies.

The government’s decision to resume gas supply to 2 closed fertilizer plants resulted in the production and availability of 1 million tonnes of urea for local consumption, eliminating the need of imports; saving the national kitty precious foreign exchange and subsidies.

This positive development will set the foundation for the growth of Pakistan’s agricultural sector ensuring not just its own food security but also paving the way for Pakistan to become a food basket for countries in the region.

The growth in urea sales also indicates the trust of the farmers in the sector and the government.
