NEPRA approves Rs1.16 hike in Power Tariff

This price increase will be applicable on all power distribution companies except for K-Electric.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday has approved an increase of Rs1.16 per unit in electricity prices putting a burden of 16 billion on users.

The price increase will be applicable on all power distribution companies except for K-Electric, agriculture sector, Life Line Users.
According to details, the increase was approved under fuel adjustment for August.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had initially requested a Rs1.50 increase in electricity rates.

In case of an increase of Rs1.50 a burden of Rs27 billion was expected however, now it will be Rs16 billion after surge of Rs1.16 per unit.

CPPA reported that in August, 31.95 percent electricity was generated from water, 11.73percent furnace oil, 14.55 percent gas while 22.74 percent from Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

The production price per unit of electricity remained at Rs5.55 that was provided to the divisional units for Rs6.24.
