Trade deficit narrows to $6.167 billion in July-August

The import bill increased nominally by 1 percent to $9.83 billion

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The trade deficit has narrowed to $6.167 billion during first two months of the current fiscal year due to nominal growth in import bill.

According to the data, the trade deficit for July–August 2018 stood at $6.167 billion as compared with the deficit of $6.245 billion in the corresponding months of the last fiscal year, showing contraction of 1.25 percent.

The import bill increased nominally by 1 percent to $9.83 billion during the period, while the exports registered 5.1 percent to $3.66 billion during first two months of the current fiscal year.

The country’s exports in August rose 8.4% to $2.02 billion, while the imports in August up 1.4% at $4.99 billion and the trade deficit in August narrows by 2.9% to $2.98 billion.
