When contacted All Pakistan Dealers of Automobile Association chairman H M Shehzad said that the rise in automobile prices since long has been unchecked and never questioned by the authorities why and what factors led to increase in prices.

He said that as number of measures have been taken by our Honorable Chief Justice Saqib Nasir, our Chief Justice should immediately take action against this price increase and all the auto makers should be questioned what are the factors behind the price increase and cost involved in manufacturing why consumers has to spend huge amount to get a reasonable and affordable transport system.

The government should fasten the process of attracting investment in the auto sector because it would help increase competition in the auto sector and would help check price and improve the quality of the product.

However, according to an analyst the car sales likely to drop during the new fiscal year as government has imposed restriction that non-filer could not import new vehicles. He said that out of the total sales per annum nearly half of the vehicles have been bought by non-filers.

Moreover car sales might take a dip following the State Bank of Pakistan’s decision to increase benchmark interest rate by 50 basis points to 6.50 percent. According to one analyst estimates about 40 percent of the auto sales comprised through auto financing.

H M Shehzad said one of the measures the government should take in months to come should allow import new vehicles which would all give good competition and choice of cars to consumers.
