ISLAMABAD (Dunya News)- National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has consented to allow power producers to charge one percent cost of 19 power projects worth $15.56 billion under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for period of 20-30 years, reported Roznama Dunya on Saturday.

These 19 power projects would add 10000MW of electricity to national grid after completion whereas amount worth Rs315 million would be spent on security purposes.

Officials would garner overall security data after every five years and theses charges would be eliminated if a drastic change in country’s security situation is observed.

“The authority (Nepra) has decided to allow 1pc capital cost of the project reduced by $150,000/annum (subject to 3pc indexation for each year after the first year from COD) as security cost in respect of each CPEC power project in accordance with the approved payment mechanism and the same shall be treated as pass-through item,” read Nepra’s order.

The regulator stated that 10 projects would have zero financial impact on electricity consumers while three would have financial impact of less than one paisa and six would have financial impact with one-two paisa per unit.
