KARACHI (Dunya News) – Mobile phones and electronics dealers have demanded the government to lessen duty taxes on imports in the federal budget of 2016-17, reported Saturday.

Karachi Electronics Market Association has demanded the government to lessen tax burden on import of electronics including air conditioners and television sets. The association is seeking relief on imported home appliances in the forthcoming federal budget.

President of the association, Muhammad Rizwan said that manufacturers pay duty taxes on import of parts while other traders have to pay heavy taxes as well. Revenue could not be increased until the government cuts duty taxes, he added.

On the other hand, mobile phone dealers have demanded the government to provide incentives to local industrialists for growth in production of indigenous cell phones and their accessories.

According to economists, the government needs to introduce an investment-friendly policy that decrease the budget of imports and lead to improved local production.

A mobile dealer, Faisal Sheikh said that the government needs to dedicate tax-free zones to manufacturers so that assembling of mobile phones could begin at local level.
