Pakistan's leather exports plunge 21 percent in six months

Summary Refinance rate for leather sector should be three percent same as textile industry, demands chairman

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Leather products’ export has fallen by at least 21 percent in the last six months while the government has been demanded to increase facilities given to the industry, Dunya News reported Monday.

Pakistan’s leather exports rank second in the international market however, the sales have plunged by 21 percent.

Traders have said that leather industries, unfortunately are not among government’s priorities. The lack of attention results in negligible ratio of Pakistani products in international market compared to those of other countries.

Leather Exporters Association Chairman Gulzar Feroz demanded the government to take note of the facilities provided and revise them.

He also demanded the government to set refinance rate for leather sector same as textile industry, three percent.
