LAHORE (Dunya News) – Regulatory duty imposed on chicken that is imported for breeding purpose will hike prices of eggs and meat as government fails to relieve the public in ‘mini budget’.

Chicken is relatively cheaper than pulses and vegetables these days. However, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’s efforts to better economy while providing relief to the people seems to go nowhere.

Poultry association stated that breeders’ production cost will increase due to imposition of ten percent duty tax on imported chicken. Meanwhile, thirty percent duty has also been imposed on imported poultry feed that is mainly corn.

According to the farmers, poultry feed constitutes of 40 to 50 percent corn. Resultantly, eggs and chicken prices will increase. The association has demanded the government to reverse the duty imposition.

The breeders have recommended the government to impose regulatory duty on imported chicken products if it has to.
