KARACHI (Dunya News) – Marine Fisheries Department (MFD) on Tuesday has permitted another private company to export sea food to European countries.
European Union (EU) had lifted ban on sea food imports from Pakistan in 2013. End to ban resulted in department’s permission to two companies to export fish however, after two years of the development no exports have been made so far.
The department has added another name to companies that are allowed to export through auction hall K-I.

Earlier this month it was reported that EU is likely to start seafood trade with Karachi fisheries auction hall K-I however ban on imports from auction hall K-II is likely to be maintained.
In October, the MFD had suspended operations at both the auction halls at the harbor for as many as 40 days. The step was taken in bid to enlist more processing plants by the EU.
The administration has asked Fisherman’s Cooperative Society (FCS) to expand K-I hall and install sliding-mesh rollers in the given time.
