Tractor sales slump 28% in first quarter across Pakistan

Summary Farmers have stopped purchase of tractors to avail the schemes offered by the government.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Director General of Pakistan Auto Manufacturers Association on Tuesday reported 28% decline in tractor sales in the first quarter of 2015, Dunya News reported.

According to DG PAMA Abdul Waheed Khan, the sales have been affected due to the government policies. Only 6,745 units were sold in the first three months of 2015 while last year the sales were recorded at 9,636.

He said the authorities have not announced tractor schemes in Sindh and Punjab yet, which is causing millions of losses to the industry and farmers.

In June this year, the Punjab government allocated Rs 5 billion for the distribution of 25,000 tractors, while the Sindh government marked 29,089 tractors at a subsidy of Rs 200,000 to Rs 300,000 on each unit.
