LAHORE (Dunya News) – Split chickpea price in a year has been increased by at least Rs 40 while dependence on imports has widened as local crops were not improved.

The price for split chickpea has been hiked from Rs 80 to Rs 120 in the ongoing year. Locals in Karachi have to purchase lentil for at least Rs 200 per Kilogram (Kg).

Wholesale businessmen said that the local demand is met every year through imports. The total demand of pulses in the country is at least 40 lac ton Kg annually. The production in the country stands at 5 lac ton to 7 lac ton.

Resultantly, the staple diet is imported from Australia and other countries to meet the requirements.
