KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Cement sales in local market increased by 9.39 percent during the first five months of the current fiscal year compared to the same period (July to November) last year. However, the export of cement declined in comparison to the same period last year by 2 percent. There was an overall increase of 6.35 percent during the first five months of the fiscal year 2014-15.

All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association spokesperson said that the government did not pay any serious heed to solving the real challenges faced by the cement industry. However, improved performance of the industry under poor economic conditions of the country is plausible, he said. He told that the impression created by certain newspapers that cement industry evades taxes is wrong. He said that cement industry is a major contributor to Pakistan’s GDP and is still a victim of undue criticism.
