Summary European stock markets retreated once more at the start of trading.

LONDON (AFP) - European stock markets retreated once more at the start of trading on Tuesday after a slight recovery the previous day.

At the open, London s benchmark FTSE 100 index lost 0.48 percent to stand at 6,335.97 points compared with its closing level on Monday.

Frankfurt s DAX 30 slid 0.53 percent to 8,765.36 points and the CAC 40 in Paris shed 0.63 percent to 4,053.08.

European stock markets had recovered slightly on Monday as investors swept up bargains following last week s sharp losses in company share prices caused by fears that the eurozone could fall back into recession.
