LONDON (AFP) - Europe's main stock markets advanced at the start of trading on Tuesday, with London's benchmark FTSE 100 index rising 0.26 percent to 6,537.37 points.

The CAC 40 index in Paris gained 0.29 percent to 4,288.88 points and Frankfurt's DAX 30 grew 0.38 percent to 9,223.92 compared with Monday's closing values.

Europe's top indices had closed with big losses on Monday in the wake of more downbeat Chinese economic data and on concerns about an escalation of tensions over Ukraine, according to traders.
