Shahbaz urges SAARC to adopt EU model

Summary Punjab CM says SAARC countries should EU model to resolve mutual issues.

 

LAHORE: Addressing a function held in honor of members of South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA), here today, he regretted that unfortunately, the region of SAARC countries had not been peaceful and its history was full of mutual conflicts, wars, leading to problems, destruction, devastation, poverty and unemployment, besides enhancing problems of the people.


He said if SAARC countries, following the European Union spent their resources on uplift and development of their people, this region can also be transformed as the developed part of the world, with existing tensions eliminated by adopting collective thinking. 


He lauded the role played, being played by members of SAFMA for promotion of peace in the region, and stressed that nevertheless SAARC counties will have to play a more effective role in resolving their issues, improving their relations and enhancing their contacts.


He said that similar ceremonies and exchange of delegations, between SAARC counties, can make the organization more effective, and this practice should continue in future as well.


He also highlighted the highly dynamic role of media, in restoration of independent judiciary.


“Print and electronic media are highly active and dynamic in Pakistan, and a new role of media has emerged”, he expressed, and while agreeing that the electronic media was passing through an evolutionary phase in Pakistan, he hoped that it would perform even better with the passage of time.


He said, that absence of strong institutions in Pakistan, was making looters and thieves to roam about freely and resorting to even further loot and plunder.
